Want to take action against slavery and human trafficking?

Change.org, a website dedicated to raising awareness about a variety of causes and enlisting the help of its community members to take action, has a section of the website dedicated to human trafficking. At their End Human Trafficking site you can take action on different topics. There are many different topics related to human trafficking you can participate in.

The action the most people have participated in to date is to get Choice Hotels to commit to preventing child prostitution in their hotels. They have over 6,000 locations worldwide, and their hotels include Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Clarion, Sleep Inn, Cambria Suites, Mainstay Suites, Suburban, EconoLodge, and Rodeway Inn.

If there’s a specific aspect of human trafficking you are concerned about, you can start an action on here as well. Movements are often started by people who simply care passionately about an issue and start getting people to join them!

      Hi Janet,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I had decided to “archive” this blog, but am getting back into it.

If you’re still looking into projects, I would be more than happy to connect you with people that I know. The legislative session will begin again in January, and hopefully legislation to “decriminalize” prostitution under the age of 16 will be reintroduced (meaning they will not receive prison sentences, but will instead receive services).

Please email me at nomoreslavery@storrschurch.org if you’re still looking! I’m also just in general interested to learn what groups you’re working with, and how you’ve decided to get involved with this issue if you’re no longer looking.

      Take care,
      Sarah

I am trying to find somewhere i can do service hours for my social justice project, i choose human trafficking as a topic and i can’t find anywhere to do service hours locally, any way you could help?

      Hi Megan,

It sounds like you’re looking to volunteer in Connecticut? I would point you toward the Paul & Lisa Program (contact@paulandlisa.org). They help domestic victims of human trafficking. The other organization I would try is the International Institute of Connecticut (projrescue@iiconn.org). They have a Human Trafficking Project. Either organizations may have some creative ways you could help. Alternately, if you’re at UConn, the service learning department may have some connections you could take advantage of.

If you’re not in CT, let me know what state you’re in and I’ll see what I can find.

Sounds like a great project. I hope it goes well. Let me know if this information is helpful.

      Peace,
      Sarah
